What Is a Packaging Unit?
A packaging unit is the way a product is packaged or shipped. For example:
- Piece
- Box of 12 pieces
- Pallet with 24 boxes
For you as warehouse manager—and for the picker—this must be completely clear.
Why This Often Goes Wrong
“The customer ordered 3 boxes, but our picker grabbed 3 individual items. Now they’re short 33 products…”
Many systems display only the quantity, but not what unit type it’s referring to. And with incorrect picks, this often only becomes clear when it’s already too late.
How Babeldat Solves This
- You define all packaging units per product
- You can select the default unit per customer
- Pick list and scanner clearly display: “3 × box of 12”
- Warnings for mismatches or leftover quantities
- Suitable for both unit sales and bulk handling
This way, you prevent costly picking errors and staff confusion.
